Here are some pictures from my latest trip to the Keys. The winter was bad for the poor Key's reefs. All the shallow water reefs were hammered bad and even the deep reefs showed significant damage. The water temps got into the 60s for a month. Our first dive the water temp was still only 70. The last dive it was up to 77 but it is usually always in the 80s.
What SPS is there was all bleached out. The Gorgs looked like they came through OK. I did check on a stand of Elkhorn coral I have been watch make a comeback and it was still OK. I saw pictures of beaches covered in dead fish and the fishing was terrible. Last summer we saw schools and schools and lots of big fish, this year just a few. The locals told me a lot of the big older fish died first. Sad! So much for global warming. None the less, a bad day of diving is better than a great day at work. Enjoy!
