I’m no craftsman so it’s not the cleanest looking thing in the world, but I just completed a DIY top using acrylic strips and window screen. The tank is a rimless 12 gal long Aquamaxx and I really wanted to keep the rimless look so I thought I would give this a try. For the top, I cut 1 inch wide strips of acrylic to create a frame that would sit directly on top of the tank and I bonded the pieces together using acrylic cement. I then bonded the screen underneath the acrylic frame. Beneath the screen, there is a slightly smaller frame made of 3/4 inch wide strips of acrylic that is bonded up into the top frame so that the screen is sandwiched between the pieces. The 3/4” wide frame sits snug right inside the sides of the tank to ensure that the top doesn’t move around. Due to the 35.5” length of the tank, I had to buy a pretty large sheet of acrylic and have quite a bit leftover so I may try to make another one that looks a bit cleaner. Thank you for reading!
