DIY black background! Please help

What kind of paint beside spray paint and acrylic paint can I use to make the black really pop out??

It's at home depot in small cans....it is the glossy black. ..Easy to roll on n looks great

You might want to consider using self adhesive vinyl.

Here are a couple of brands sold specifically for aquariums:
Blue Life USA Water Colors Aquarium Background

Crystal Black Oceanvisions Background | That Fish Place

Other places to look for self adhesive vinyl sheets would be eBay, art supply and/or craft stores, and sign companies.

I just use laminated black paper like from a arts / crafts store. Cheaper, reuseable, cleans off nicely and you can use velcro or non residue tape to put it on/off, I find this the easiest. Places like Hobby Lobby will even cut a piece to your size specifications and laminate it for you.

+1 and this will be on my new tank build for certain. Many many color options and rather inexpensive to boot.

the added benefit is that you can change it out if you want to try other colors down the road......
