I decided to build a 17" tall canopy over the 75 gallon. I haven't put the final touches and still need to prime and paint but this is where I am as of right now.

What y'all think??

Looking good....I'd add trim pieces along the top edge to balance out and frame the front. I too like tall canopies for keeping the fish from jumping and mounting the lights up high enough.

How do you open it to get to the tank?

That sure seems tall to me. Mine is not that tall but I also used LED's for lighting.

Boxed trim just didn't have them on when I dry fitted the box.
Wanted to see everything in place before I add all the finishing touches

I'm cutting holes and building doors to access the inside

Instead of cutting holes for smaller doors, just put hinges along the top and make the whole front of the canopy open. That's what I did and love the easy access with a large opening.

Tall is good, gives you room to work with the long handle scraper.
