I am in the middle of designing a canopy for my tank. but a little confused on what to use for the frame and what do I use to water proof it or atleast protect it from the moisture.
for the fram i'm thinking furring strip 1x2x4 or 1x2x8(cut in half). heres a link.

There are so many options depending on your skills and design, personal taste.

You could do a 1x2 frame, and if so I'd suggest getting nice select knot free if you do to avoid weakness from spike knots and such.

You could also skip 1x and just use a quality ply and trim out raw edges.

There were a few threads showing off stands and canopies in this forum, I'd suggest scrolling through and find something you like that is in line w/ your skillset and begin there maybe.
