There are lots of ideas where people use an old fridge and run some plumbing through it to cool water form their tank. Has anyone tried using an old ice chest? I need something very temporary for the summer for my QT in the garage. So I was thinking take the fridge idea but instead of a fridge just run it through an ice chest filled with ice packs and water. It should be able to cool the tank water down even better than a fridge since i'm using water as the medium to transfer heat. Only issue is I would need to replace ice packs every other day or so.

Do you have a controller to start and stop flow through the cooler?

yes i would need a controler to stop the flow when the qt gets cool
