Here's a copy from the DIY archive sticky:

Manganese gluconate is 12.4% manganese by weight.

Dissolve 1 gram of the solid material in 1 L of RO/DI. That solution contains 124 mg of manganese, so the concentration is 124 mg/L or 124 ug/mL.

Adding 1 mL to 100 L of tank water will boost aquarium manganese levels by 124 ug per 100 L or 1.24 ug/L.

If you want to target 0.17 ug/L, you'd dose 0.5 mL. If you want to further dissolve that into 250 ml of water for dosing, that's fine.

For potassium, using potassium chloride, use this calculator and the entry for potassium from potassium nitrate. and then multiply the final amount needed by 0.75 (so you are dosing 3/4 of the amount it says).

I guess my scale won’t register just 1gram do you happen to know if I can measure with tsp somehow?

@Randy Holmes-Farley can we mix 1gram into 500ML for a more potent solution? Not sure where this becomes no longer soluble.

Is the gluconate better then the other manganese compounds?

I do not know if it is better, but especially if you mix it with ferrous gluconate, I’d use the gluconate. Both the chloride and the gluconate are very soluble and can be made more potent if you have a large tank to dose.

Just ordered a Mangenese Sulfate to supplement my tank. Seller says it is used for fertilizers. Is it still usable?

CAS # : 10034-96-5
Using RotalaButterfly calculator, I need to mix 0.4grams for 1L of RODI water.

1ml of that stock solution would increase 0.001ppm to my 130L tank.

Does it look correct?

I recommend good grade manganese. A fertilizer grade may be fine, but doesn’t have the same purity guarantee as food grade.

What Manganese gluconate do you recommend ? Like specific brand that is good for reef use?

Unfortunately, I don’t know there strength. If someone can chime in that would be awesome.

Why do you need it? If you know your level and your target, determining how much to use is easy. :)

So, I"m using MnSO4 (monohydrate). Did I do my math correct in that 0.012g of the MnS04 into a gallon of water will make the 10x Manganese formula? 1mg/L? That seems like an impossibly small amount, but working with Grok, that's what it came out with.

My precision scale can only do 0.000g.

That 100 ug/L number does not seem likely. The Oceamo supplement is 200 ug/mL or 200,000 ug/L.

If you wanted to add 1 ug/L to a 100 L aquarium, you’d need to add a full liter of 100 ug/L dosing fluid.

Ok, Apparently I shouldn't try to do chemistry math on Friday nights. :)

Formula:
<needed increase> * <tank size in liters> / <concentration> = dosage

Given:

  • Needed increase = 1 µg/L
  • Tank size = 379 L (100 gallons converted to liters, as 1 gallon ≈ 3.79 L)
  • Dosage = 3.79 mL
  • Missing value = concentration (let's call it CC, in µg/mL)
Plugging in the known values:

1 µg/L×379 L/C=3.79 mL

Simplify the left side:

379 µg/C=3.79 mL

Solve for CC:

C=379 µg/3.79 mL

C=100 µg/mL

Answer:
The missing concentration value is 100 µg/mL.
