So my plan here is to hang a 48 ati fixture over the tank already have the light so since I built the stand myself I figured I would make a hanging kit for my t5 what do you guys think about this way I will be painting all wood black. Will be just adding a center piece across top of tank to mount light.

The piece of wood going across tank should be strong enough to hold light since all of weight should be basically on the end of the tank where it will be mounted stand

I built something like that out of aluminum T-slot. I got sick of it always being in the way. I would suggest something like this:

Assuming that’s mounting from the ceiling? Wife doesn’t want me to hang anything from ceiling I guess...

Hanging from the ceiling is not much different than hanging a picture on the wall. Find the joist and screw in, if no joist where you want it you can put up a board between the two nearest joists. I've also seen people mount from the wall behind the tank. Make a sort of a shelf coming out. If you really don't want to screw into any walls or ceilings then your proposed plan was the best I could come up with. Got annoying after a while though.
Trust me I would be hanging from the ceiling if wife did not care lol

So I finally got around to making my diy t5 fixture mount I needed up saying scratch the wood idea and am using 3/4 inch pipe with two 90 degree angles to connect them waiting for them to dry then will be mounting them this will be very sturdy as well and put me at ease
