Hey all,

I have a ~225 gallon tank I acquired with the purchase of my first home last year. It’s been running for about 6 months now & I’ve been thinking about adding a lid, mostly so that I can add certain fish like wrasse, goby’s, etc…

I have no idea what brand/model my tank is since it came with the house I purchased. I have looked at some custom options but have had trouble getting responses/quotes from the companies I have reached out to & imagine these options would be fairly pricy.

Does anyone have any DIY solutions that are effective & reasonably economical? Appearance isn’t a huge factor as my aquarium is built into the wall of my basement. My lights are hanging. I plan to eventually get a plank feeder so would need a cutout for that & some cords for wavemakers, etc…

Cheers!

I just built one for my 235gal with 2 frame kits from home depot. $77 total plus 2 pieces i had from a DD kit and brs mesh. I did 3 separate screens Sunday with a lot of cut arounds. Ive done red sea and DD. DD has the most options but they can get pricey.

Also, the corner pieces from neat aquatics fit the 5mm kit from home depot if you need corners that sit in the edge of the glass. Mine sits on a eurobrace so i didn't need them

I just used window screen kit from Lowe's (like post# 2) and 1/4" clear mesh from Amazon that was like $12 (some years ago).
*I have a rimmed tank

I like the special corners idea in post #3 if you have a rimless tank.

I also used the light cutouts from DD. I had to shave down the male portion with a multitool. It was pretty easy. The corners from home depot are all outside corners. You can shave off the wing portion to use it as an inside. Also pretty easy to trim. I had the 5mm set. Be careful, they make 7mm too.
