My dilemma was that my sump water level had to be 6 inches in order for the skimmer to work optimally. I had my sump at 9 inches (which I liked having for the little bit of extra water volume)

Finally got around to building my own skimmer stand. This was such an easy project and if you're in the same boat as me. This was cheap and anyone can do it.

I built it out of 1 1/2 scrap pvc I bought for 3 dollars at the local hardware store, zip ties and back light diffuser (egg crate) 7"x7" square with 4" PVC legs. I chose to have the skimmer in 5 inches of water for more control over wet / dry skim. Check out my build thread!
