Diy pvc overflow suggestions

I am now at the point where I want to add a sump to my 29 gallon biocube. I have seen some plans online of pvc versions that looks like what I am looking for. I want to keep the hood on my biocube so the pvc styles look good to me. Anyone mind sharing tried and true plans/suggestions for a set-up for my tank. Also how do you figure out the size pump you use for the overflow? Thanks for the help.

I forgot what size it was But im pretty sure it was 4" or 5". I painted it black, cut it in half and then cut teeth on top. was on a 20l
