The problem is feeding time. I have 3 different sized mouths and 2 different diets so I have to overfeed due to frozen food sizes. Mostly it's the fresh shrimp/fish/scallop chunks and large mysis/plankton that no one eats. Also, there is a lot of small particles that the small damsels don't eat that stick in the sock pores. I have 3 adult ochre-striped cardinals and one of them can consume 3 standard cubes alone or an entire bay scallop, but he doesn't always eat the same volume of food so there's usually an over-abundance of scraps that the WAV heads kick up after feeding. The shrimp and crabs get their fill daily but they can't possibly clean it all up before it hits the overflow.

Have you tried to feed smaller portions multiple times a day? I know that can be difficult for some due to work requirements but it sounds like you are feeding too much all at once.

Not going to happen. I'm not home and I prefer to feed my live stock frozen/fresh food. I resort to trying dried flake if they won't eat frozen mysis and brine mix. I will have to use an Apex feeder during vacation if we don't have a house sitter. Yes, I am overfeeding and it wasn't a problem until I added additional food size and volume requirements. When I ordered the ochre's I wasn't expecting full-size adults. They're magnificent fish and I'm not getting rid of them. I'll either figure the feeding out or figure out a strainer system. I can't strain the overflow and the only access I have to intercept the down tube is after it's inside the sump. There is no union on the line from the bottom of the tank. Looks like I may be redoing that plumbing this weekend. :/

Actually, there is one union in the middle of the cabinet, but it's about 2.5ft from the sump inlet and very close to 3 other unions. Not useful for attachments.

This is my 2 drains. There hard plumbed from 2 bulkheads at the upper ,back top of my tank. I thought having 1 going into the thing a ma giggy. And the other as is.

I would dump one into a sock partially above the water line so you get aeration.

Will it work in freshwater aquarium sump? If not why would it not work for mechanical filteration?
