Do Bisma Worms breed inside the coral?

So I just picked up a Christmas Worm Rock (will post pictures later when it's fully open, but here's a teaser)

And was wondering if the Bisma worms breed inside the coral? I haven't seen an answer to this so I'm not 100% sure, but if they don't at least I got a decent amount of worms so far :)

I know they like porites. I’m not sure if that is an obligate relationship or if they’ll end up other places.

pretty sure a few species are obligate

I know they like porites. I’m not sure if that is an obligate relationship or if they’ll end up other places.

I believe there are some that are found in cyphastrea and other corals as well, but not sure if that's technically another subspecies of worm or something.

If I remember correctly, they don't actually burrow into the coral, they just sit on it and grow along with the speed of the coral. Now think about how big those worms are and how long it takes a porites or cyphastrea to build that much skeleton.

I was under the impression that they do burrow.

So would it possibly be a good idea to add a cheap porites/chalice piece so eventually if the worms breed I could get 2 christmas tree rocks?

Nice to see these rocks showing up again. Well over a decade they were unheard of. They were plentiful in the 80's and 90's.

100%, these guys are going into a new tank soon, so if they make it I'm willing to try
