I have a rather large, rather fast growing purple monti cap coral.

About two months ago, I added a red/orange monti cap coral that is about the size of an American 50 cent piece. I'm hoping for them to grow together in a swirling pattern.

However, while the purple monti continues to grow quickly, the red variety only seems to have grown a very small bit. Lighting and flow seem to be just about the same for both placements.

I'm wondering if the two different color varieties of monti have different growth rates? Another possibility I've considered is that the larger colony, being larger, is able to grab more light and resources and is therefore growing faster.

Can anyone provide any information on this? Thanks!

I’m pretty sure I’ve read somewhere that no two corals are the same. If you frag some from a colony, some will grow faster than there’s, no two corals are alike.

No. The different colored zoox are different strains and they provide sugars at different rates.

Plus, since you want it to work out that way, it just will not. :) Kinda like how your most expensive coral is always the most tasty if some fish wants to much.
