Do Hanna Checkers have different colour LEDs?

I find this all very interesting. Don't get me wrong, I want to love the checkers and did at first until I ran into problems and started really paying attention to the result. That is why I am looking at other options or workflows. I am waiting on GHL to get the kinks worked out of the ION-D and for it to go back in stock. I have high hopes for it, but those may be optimistically misplaced.

It has write-up on nitrate, phosphate ammonia and nitrite. Step by steps for making standards, choosing different test kits, and measuring absorbance with the best LED available for those particular jobs. I think it's what you're hunting for.
 
Old thread but similar theme, so;

Oxygen estimation for the masses, lol;

Measurements taken around 22 Deg C. Salifert oxygen test kit (doubled the amount of sample (10ml) so likewise with the reagents). Hanna phos checker as previous.

New water circulated with a rolling boil for a week, bar a few days mid week in a blacked out mixing station to provide a relatively saturated blank. Reading from Hanna was 1.77.

Tank water taken at 1400hrs reads 1.92. Build thread tank tested.

I guess all I've gotta do now is wait till morning to obtain a low reading, maybe 🤔

I reviewed the instructions and surmise that the first two steps could be where oxygen from the air can contaminate the sample if mixed to vigorously. If the results trend isn’t making sense, try downgrading the sample mixing. Larger samples with no head space and a little stir bar to stir the solution (like the little ball in a spray paint can) would eliminate oxygen contamination.

Will be interesting if this gives better resolution in the area around saturation.
I've only got reagent for about 25 tests in total with this kit, so if you can suggest a method to check this (that's really simple) I'll give it a bash.

What O2 ppm does the color intensity line up with on the color chart? I find about 7 ppm in my aquarium water with the Hanna O2 test kit.

Dunno but I'm going to be checking the wife's tank this week because she has a skimmer on her tank. I'll see what it looks like compared to the chart, while I'm at it.

~80 USD for 100+ tests, so yeah, a bit pricey.

This morning before the lights came on in my wife's tank I tested it (skimmered) and the Hanna result was 1.72, just a tad higher than my non skimmered tank 1.66.
I quickly poured the vial into the Salifert vial and removed 5ml before reading the chart. It appeared to be 8 ish but with this chart I think most folk would be forgiven for reporting anywhere between 7 and 9. It appeared to lose 1ppm by lighting it under a kitchen LED, lol.
I thought I had read somewhere that 100% saturation was around 7ppm, maybe a little less at reef temps.

Only if something really odd shows up whilst I'm using up this current test kit. All results so far have been close enough to saturated that the slight mod I made to my return pipe (used to be extremely splashy) seem insignificant, even without a skimmer.
 
Update - I've been playing around with the oxygen test. Seems without bubbles being driven into the water (full Syphon) oxygen drops to around 6mgL, peaks at 7mg/L (no skimmer). With a noisy overflow (bubbles driven down into the sump) minimum oxygen at night is 8ish mg/L (no skimmer). Whatever the actual reading in my/L my tank is certainly above the readings that I'm getting from my vigorously circulated fresh saltwater water reservoir that has been wizzing around outside for over a month. I've also tested the wife's skimmered tank and that is also very close to mine, almost identical in fact.

Interesting. One thing to keep in mind is temp impacts O2 in the water. I’m not sure if the water outside is warmer or cooler, or just right, but it may well be a different temp.

The outside water is a little cooler, @ 21C ish. My tank is 26C ish.

These concentrations are within the range in my aquarium water when measured at random intervals using the Hanna test kit. The only water sample that is interestingly different is the water I withdraw from the sand bed (pore water). Thats substantially below 6 ppm oxygen. Most of the other water tests of pore water are very different from the aquarium water,
