Do I need an anemone?

I said I wasn’t going to buy any new fish or corals for 6 months while my tank matures and I get some new things in place.... the new things are happening : ) but I have a problem.

I have a few clown fish... of course. Who doesn’t right? I don’t have an anemone for them. I did... I had a green carpet anemone. He was kind of small and I think they kind of “nested” him to death. Now they‘ve started nesting one of my corals.

Should I go ahead and get an anemone? Or am I worried about nothing?

Nope, clowns do not need an anemone to thrive. I have over 20 BTA's in my tank and the clowns don't go near them.

The were hosted by a power head for 2 years. Now they live in the frogspawn. Clowns are funny fish. I guess that's why they are called clowns.

Clownish do not need an anemone. They actually do not generally bond with the bubble tip anemone in nature. I would get some easy to care for coral while the tank matures.

Sure they do. A maroon clown fish's favorite anemone is a BTA.

Get an anemone later so it won't die, the clowns will be fine since my tank doesn't have an anemone, my Cinnamon clowns love playing in the fake one I got for them.

I’m scared of anemones but would love to have a nice red/pink bubble top for my lightning maroon. For now, she cuddles up in hairy mushrooms and doesn’t seem too upset about it. I don’t know that she would take to an anemone anyways since it’s an ORA clown. They will be fine without one.

Interesting, I am pretty sure this was in one of my books. I will have to research some more.

Ocellaris host magnificent anemones commonly in nature and sometimes Carpet anemones, Maroon clowns will almost all of the time be found in Bubble tip anemones. Ocellaris will host a variety of anemones but these are what they're found in the wild
