I'm planning to add a fish this weekend, my tank has been up and running for ~16 months (recently upgraded in size) and coral are doing great. I only have astera snails. I haven't added coral for months, some snails were added recently but went through strong QT and cleaning.

I'm debating if I should do through QT with copper. I do have the Hanna copper reader ready if needed. I wont add any other fish, only ever keeping a single.

Thank you

It's a really personal decision. I choose to do observation QT and only medicate if I see signs of disease /parasites. Many people do medicated QT with copper. I've done copper in the past but lost fish so I stopped. I've had a velvet outbreak so I know the risks.

Thank you, that is what I'm leaning towards as well. I can always setup a QT and keep my DT fallow for 3+ months since it's only the one fish.

Everyone will probably have a different answer but personally all of my fish are QTed and I will only buy QTed fish moving forward. I started out using the BRS 80/20 QT method and I would say it’s seemed to work well. Now my lfs does full QT treatment and I have only bought fish from there since. I know that isn’t an option for everyone so doing it yourself is more likely. It is also a lot of extra work IMO that’s why I’ll just pay a premium for my lfs to do it

It is best to QT or buy qt'd fish. The reason is that observation may let things slip through. It is easier to treat proactively with copper + prazi than it is do catch all of the fish when they are sick or dying. As someone who has worked at 2 lfs stores, I can't tell you enough how risky it is to not QT.
