Hello, I have a 100 gallon system and had two established male flashers (a carpenter and the all red one I forget the name) the red one unfortunately passed when I had to move my aquarium. Its mouth got messed up when the service I hired was catching the fish and it couldn’t recover. I loved having two males chase each other so I got a mccoskers. It seemed fine the first and second day, even ate right away but now it’s MIA. In my experience when a flasher doesn’t come out for food it’s dead. Is this true or do you think it could be hiding? The aggression from the established carpenter was minimal

In my experience all wrasses disappear for a few days when first added

Could definitely be hiding. Issue is if it persists for too long it could starve. Give it a few days and look in any rock crevices. That's where they hide. If you see it hiding for longer then a week you may have to put the carpenter in an acclimation box.

It took me two tries with both previous flashers and I have never found a dead flasher. They seem to get themselves so stuck into the rock work. I will hold out hope for this one though!

The new mccoskers ate a little bit yesterday, still very shy and hasn’t come out of his rock den shared by my possum wrasse pair and tomini tang. Quite the dormitory they’ve created

The new flasher was out and about and eating and had very little aggression with the established one but randomly died today. I have very bad luck with flashers

the general consensus seems to be that they are relatively hardy fish. Anybody have any insight as to why I have bad luck with them?
