Do NOT use PETCO Carbon

To think that perhaps a quite technical, high end niche hobby that keeps animals with probably the most exacting needs of any captive wildlife group isn't best served by a retail dog food chain. Crazy.

That's a bit pretentious and elitist of you don't you think?

I remember why I don't visit this site much anymore. Replies and attitudes like this. Have a nice day

I promise we're not all like that 😅

Yeah, maybe you're right. I probably shouldn't be concerned with preserving the little bit of market share left to the few retailers that budget chain stores (and similar online mega-retailers not run by actual reef keepers) haven't put out of business yet, and I probably am wrong in thinking that actual reef businesses would have pulled this sort of product off their shelves after two or three complaints.

It is admittedly ridiculous of me to suggest that where we shop matters.

Just to clarify, is it the use of sarcasm as an attention-getting device that bothers you, or are you upset that someone would suggest that maybe prioritizing convenience and price aren't without (possibly serious) disadvantages?

^^ THIS!!!

Why is everyone buying things from petco, or just saying "i bought this carbon without researching it and X happened"??

Petco caters to the new hobbyist, stop shopping there. MAYBE, buy salt when it's on sale, but thats about it.

I'm still confused on why people just buy a new type of carbon without researching what it is first.

Sincerely, do you think so? Or is it the unknowing and, um, "frugal" ones, or even lazy ones (uh, I mean "busy") that can't be bothered to hit another shop after picking up their dog food? I'd think that a business that caters to new hobbyists would prioritize giving good information and products that help ensure straightforward success.

I'll correct my statement.

Petco caters to the uninformed hobbyist, for the most part
