Fair warning to the filter sock users.

You grab your freshly washed filter socks from the washing mashing, and once swapped into your tank - BANG! Your skimmer goes nuts and wants to spill it’s guts into the tank! What gives?!

I’ll tell you what: By any chance, are you using fabric softener in your washing machine with your clothes?

If so, go into the soap dispenser and check it. If you look under the softener compartment, you will most probably see soap scum.

Once I figured this out and switched to DRIER SHEETS which contain softener and removes static from clothes, but goes into the DRIER, I never had this problem again.

The effects of adding softener into your tanks can be disastrous. A protein skimmer can help signal to you if you are accidentally adding soaps to your tank from your washing machine.

In my experience, using laundry detergent ONLY WITH HUMAN CLOTHES does not stick to the washer to later leach out.

PS. Do not use any fabric softener NOR laundry detergent with your filter socks.
