Documentation question

When writing something for work, class, or whatever. Do you folks use one space or two spaces after a period? I normally put two spaces, but I have no foundation for doing so and I've found that when working on a collaborative document this procedure doesn't hold true for everyone.

We have lots of documents at work and When I update documentation due to new requirements, I only put 1 space after the period. These documents also get peer reviewed and no comments ever come in saying to put 2 spaces after the periods.

Two spaces, it was believed, made it easier to see where one sentence ended and the next began. Most typeset text, both before and after the typewriter, used a single space."

I saw that as well. I started off with a typewriter some 15 years ago so I guess I'm old school or just old.

I learned to type on a manual typewriter in High school. We had two typing classes and at the time they only had money to buy new typewriters for one class and I ended up in the class with the manual ones. :sad: I think we're just old...:tongue:

Old school required that you placed two spaces after the period. However, the new MSL english format, requires only a single space after the period. I always used to do it old school too, but have learned to do it the other way.

We used 2 spaces when using the typewriter (20+ years ago), but learned in graphic design and publishing via computer that 1 space was the norm.

went over this in my last English class and it turns out that yes, Revhtree does the fandango from time to time.

just kidding, 2 spaces is old school and not needed in the digital age unless you are using a typewriter. but even still by college standard no spaces used and you will end up with a lower scoring paper depending on the instructor or professor. so i have used no spaces in all my papers and documents.
