I recently started feeding my gonis reef roids/Goni powder due to Tidals gardens videos on how gonis can’t digest carbs. Well switched 6 months ago to Benepets at first I thought the Goni enjoyed it but I’ve looked back on pictures and my gonis looked sad. Now that I switched back to Goni powder I’ve noticed my phosphates tend to increase so I started to dose phosphateRX into the skimmer 15 drops while I have a very low flow feed mode so I can target feed the gonis at night so my tangs don’t nip at em. I came to the realization I may be able to calculate my increase of phosphates per grams of Goni powder and dose Phostphate RX per instructions. What is everyone’s thoughts?

I’ve dose phosphateRX for 1 month 150 drops total got 4.63 ug/L Lanthanum on my MS-ICP test which I dosed 20 drops Phostphate RX 6 hours before sampling.

While I have not watched the video and do not know how Tidal Gardens might be defining carbs, but it’s certainly not true that they cannot digest ANY carbs.

Carbs, in the form of glucose, is a primary way that zooxanthellae provide nutrition to the coral body. Goniopora also have enzymes to break down some more complex carbohydrates.

Perhaps, however, the “cannot” word is an oversimplification, and it is known in the literature to be true that at least some goniopora grow faster on a higher protein diet.

Back to the phosphate question, what
Level phosphate do you have now?

If it’s getting too high using a preferred food, it is fine to use a phosphate reduction method at the same time. Beware of the risk of lanthanum with tangs, however.
