Does anyone here have a go to charity?

Knowing how privileged I am every day to be able to afford a comfortable life and living I love to give back to those in need. I have a favorite charity called Climb for Cancer which takes groups of people on hiking trips around America and even internationally and has only one rule, you have to raise a set amount of money for families that have members suffering from cancer to be allowed on the trip. Currently I am raising money to do an 8 day hike through Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina and as I was doing so I began to wonder if anyone here has a charity they hold close to heart and would like to let everyone else know why it means so much to them.
For me Climb for Cancer means so much because not only does money go to research but it goes to the families who need help directly.Being part of a family that lost everything due to a sick sibling I know the struggles that medical bills can cost and now knowing that I can be a part of something to make sure other families don't face the same problems makes my life feel a whole lot more balanced.

So how about it, anyone else here have a meaningful charity?

There is a local charity that is my go to not only because of the help we received when my daughter went threw chemo treatment, but the families they have helped in the local community. "Candlelighters of Brevard". They are very active providing things as small as action figures to group trips to universal studios. Such a nice organization with extremely friendly and willing to help people. From my daughters lowest day her best day they have been there. They also provide financial assistance with monthly bills if needed i.e. Electric, water, etc. They have local car dealerships involved in fixing, maintaining, and even providing new tires for the long trips the treatment centers. I have attached a promotional video that my wife, daughter, and I were lucky enough to be in and share our daughters story. This is a great charity that helps the families from Brevard county Florida and tries to focus on the local families in need of help. No child should have to fight cancer alone!!

This sounds like an amazing charity and to know they really have a good community focus makes it all the better. I am sorry to hear what you and your family has gone through with your daughter. My prayers are with you and your family to remain healthy and safe.

Ever since December 2, 1987, the American Heart Association has been the one and only charity that I make regular donations to.

My reason for this is that on that fateful day so many years ago I did my very first CPR on a real person. She, much to my dismay, did not survive. I have since had many opportunities to perfect my technique. (I work in an Electrophysiology Lab at a majot Hospital - we see some of the very sickest of the sick on a daily basis)

That woman was my fiance. I miss her dearly to this day.

Lost my dad to cancer last year, and my brother fought and beat cancer when he was 14. I have a monthly donation to a local charity called "bob's buddies," which all proceeds go towards kids with pediatric cancer.

Wounded warrior foundation. I've seen them in action at the center for the intrepid at San Antonio tx. They're rehab and exit of the military is phenomenal. They do amazing work with the vets.

Make-A-Wish is also a favorite.

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at 18 years old... 15 hours of intestinal surgeries later, a great career, and an amazing fiancé, I'm so lucky to be able to look back and say, "that was a heck of a ride."

The two that is close to my heart is St. Jude's children hospital and Make a Wish. Both of them have helped our family get through my daughter's illness. St. Jude has been beside our sides since 2007 and Make a Wish helped us through a tuff time. Both charities are wonderful for children.

My sister's brother in law had ALS and passed away last year. I've been involved with an ALS walk at a local park every year to raise money. Great guy who had the same taste in movies and music as me, I built him a home theater in his room (lived with my sister's family), I would go over to kick back and watch a movie with him. Horrible disease, he was dancing at my sister's wedding and within a year was confined to a wheelchair.
I also donate $5 to help feed shelter animals when I'm at Petsmart picking up food for my cat and tortoise once a week.

I like to support local charities. I volunteer and donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters the most. Just do research to ensure your time and/or money is being put to use the way you expect it. Also don't be afraid to call them up and ask blunt questions. They should happily answer... if they won't give a straight answer, red flag!

I got the privlage to volunteer at a orphanage in Mexico for 2 years so Light of Hope Orphange has a huge place in my heart.
I couldn't even imagine the pain that some of the boys i worked with went through. Their stories were so intense.
Ive worked closely with the organization and have no doubt that the money i give will be used in the best way possible!
