Photo is not the greatest, but Google "pineapple sponge" and see if that is what you have.

If so....a keeper.

They look like they are harming the hammer. We have a lot of them. How do we get rid of them?

Cut down on feedings and they aren’t hurting the hammer

Looks like the algae is the culprit that is harming the hammer and not the sponge...
