I would love one, but I mainly just want it for the battery back up. For that, I just can't justify the cost. I may just try to rig up a big battery backup with a couple car batteries.

Do you have the Wave Engine? If so there is a cable set that you can use to hook up an IceCap version 3 battery pack to it so you can keep the pumps running on it if they will run at 12v. It will also keep the command bus at 12v on a collective. That will also trigger low power mode if you have that setup.

In the midst of a power outage. Does anyone with Hydros use the Kraken?
I have 2 Krakens. One is at the tank and the other is in the garage at my mixing station. I have a lead acid battery connected to each for battery backup.

I have a Kraken. I bought it to replace power transformers and wall warts. It also powers my 2 WaveEngine LEs. When I move everything over to my new tank, it’s going to power the three Kessil A160we lights I have too. It’s a very handy controller I think. I have a lead acid battery connected to it as well.

I have 6 controllers including a WaveEngine v2 for my 200 gallon and the water station. I really only want to keep my main and waveengine up and running if possible.

A couple of car batteries won't run very long. That 700 CCA is only a short burst,

Any controller that is hooked to the Wave Engine using a regular command buss cable will get power from the Wave Engine over the command bus unless it is connected through a data only command bus cable. Now that will power the brain on the other controllers but any controllers that either plug in an outlet or have a power port will have outputs that will not work since those are isolated from the command bus power. Sounds like you are getting there. I have 15 controller in my large collective including 2 Krakens. Some are at the tank and others in the garage at my mixing station and RODI filter. So I have battery backup at both locations and the controllers that have power input ports are hooked to force ports on the Krakens so Those will remain powered also.

I have a Kraken and while I like it for the fact that it gets rid of 8 DC power pucks, I have been having issues with the low power mode with my LifePO4 battery. I disabled the auto-charging feature per CoralVue but when I lose power and then get power back the Kraken stays in low power mode and only draws power from the 12V battery even though there's 24V being supplied by the PSU. I am trying to work with their support to figure out the issue and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a firmware update eventually as they seem very interested in what has been happening and they said it happens to a very few Krakens and I have been able to give them data to try to and figure out the issue.
