Is it the same with magnesium?

I think so, but as randy said, there is a slight concern in the impurities of some products and raising that too fast. I have dosed 100ppm magnesium in one day in a 75 gallon with no issues (brs magnesium chloride)

So as long as my alk is good then my magnesium and calcium will be good? Or should I still test them

You wouldn't need to test regularly. You are more likely to see random test kit variation than actual changes.
