Does it really matter if I remove this or not?

Added 5 scarlets to my CUC today in my JBJ 45.

I guess one became instant prey for someone.

The soft tissue has been eaten,

I hate sticking my hand in the tank unless I have to.

Anyone know if this little hard inedible part is going to leech excess nutrients? Or is it just like a coral skeleton now.

Its up to you. No harm leaving it.

If it were mine, it would remain. Other crabs may eat it for added calcium

Alas,

I tried to remove it with a very long coral feeder/turkey Baster I have.

I right when I got it to the top, my Nero 5 pulsed, and it was as if gossamer were in my grasp.

It tumbled away deep into the rock work......

Forever a mystery.

Sure it’s not just a molt?

Either way I’m sure you could leave it and something will eat it

I never thought of that. I guess I always thought they just grew and grew... but they’re crabs so they would molt. Duh. Thanks. He’s probably the one now hiding deep in his shell, that’s him on the left in the same photo.

Yeah mine will tend to hide for a day or so after molting.
