So can presidents just use executive orders to do whatever they want? What is the point of the other two branches?
Yes, that is why we are taking Canada by the end of the year.
The other two branches have there own problems. The court decided that it gets to decide what a law actually can mean after the legistlative branches have put something together. They started working outside of the original guidelines a long time ago and these writs of Ex Odor our executives have been dealing in is a pushback (in the wrong direction) to check the Courts folly.
The legistlative branch has a nasty habit of collecting payola and other lucrative schemes that keep them from doing the business for the People and rather busy giving the business to the people.
How it all works.
Lawyers in Hawaii go to court and block fishing for Yellow Tangs citing concerns for overfishing by the (heartless, evil) aquarium trade. The fight in court takes years, many fisherfolks give up before a settlement is reached that would have allowed a modest and well regulated fishery.
Legistlature enacts protections that prevent most fishing, and the Courts rule according to the crease in their pants, or other useless legal points that does nothing for the actual potential overfishing issue other than resolve it, and the next round of legal challenges start again.
The current administration provides relief to fishing families (and long lining corporations? ) by opening up areas that had been closed to fishing when they were designated a National Monument by a past administration. The area is great for tuna and other table fishes to be harvested in. It's the ocean. Who knows if the Coast Guard or anyone else was enforcing past fisheries closures?
The people of Hawaii want to fish responsibly and ethically, for the most part. GOvernment oversite and wise governance has never been an issue that elected class has time to solve. They get lots of campaign contributions from all sides and resolving a thing wouldn't really make monitary sense. Business is good when the issues are boiling.
