So I’m planning on adding a saddle valentini or saddle puffer to my 40g breeder. I also plan on adding 2 or 3 gobies and 2 clownfish.

That sound ok? Or can I do more?

Sure.
What else are you keeping? Fish only? Reef?
A Valentini puffer, actually a Toby, is actually better in a fish only system. They are very likely to lick at corals and inverts.
Cool fish though. Lots of personality

I think you're fine with that stocking list, what ndrwater said they can be a hit or miss with corals and inverts.

Depends on the size of the gobies you were thinking

The price is definitely high on them, if you were thinking one or a pair than thats fine (for your tank, not your wallet) but the fish only needs a 10 gal according to live aquaria but I think 20-30 gallon is more sufficient for them. Neon gobies are pretty cool as well as yellow pygmy gobies. I think 2 clownfish, a Valentini puffer, and 1-2 gobies would be fine for your tank

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
