I have a coral beauty who has a white spot, and I’m trying to keep myself from panicing. It went thru a 2.5 week copper quarantine (I realize that’s a little short). Three days after moving it to the DT, a white spot formed on the tip of its second dorsal ray. It was uneven and looked more like lymphocystis than crypto/ich. It was gone 5-6 days later with a small scar left behind. Now today, 3 days after it fell off, another spot appeared less than a millimeter away from the original. It’s farther down the second dorsal ray but still on the fin. It is acting very health, no scratching and eating like a pig.

My question is, can lympho cysts reform a few days later. I know this question is hard to answer but I hate to think of getting crypto in my 1.5 month old tank.

Thanks in advance.

Beautiful fish. Yes it can reform. It's a virus much like human herpes. It will wax and wane. Best defense is feeding the fish as much high quality food that mimics the fish's natural environment. That being said, making a fish "smoothie" out of a large variety of frozen fish cubes is one way to get the variety needed. Cubes like: seaweed, reef cuisine, chopped clams, mysis, brine shrimp, fish eggs, etc. Take one of each. Place into a tupperware in the fridge. Allow to "slump." Pour off the excess liquid. Will stay good in the fridge for a few days. Can add vitamins too, like Selcon, etc.

Has the fish been QT'd and prophylactially treated for flukes, etc.?

Thanks for the feed back! I’ve been giving the tank Reef Frezy and PE Mysis soaked in Selcon, garlic, and a marine probiotic. Hopefully that will give them the nutrition they need to stay happy and healthy.

I’m finding I’m not mentally cutout for this hobby. I’m way too afraid of a little white speck.
