lol i'm single so I guess I don't have any problems my daughter takes care of tank when i'm gone and has blamed me for grandson want a tank. LOL he is 3 so starting young his mother not happy hehe

Awesome topic. My wife and I started this hobby together, I was to do maintenance, she was to feed the fish, but as time went on she lost interest. Fortunately with our new tank upgrade and me encouraging her to pick out all the new fish she is showing more interest lately!

My wife fully emotionally and financially support my hobby. She likes choosing fish and corals and loves relating tank chemistry to the body, (her way of making me look after myself) that said she has never waterchanged, feed coral twice, never feed fish and wouldn't touch anything regarding biology and chemistry

+1. Mine started out very interested. Now she rarely even looks at the tanks. It sucks.

I wish she knew things, it would give us another thing to talk about..

My wife responnds best when things get stupid names not real names. Ugh i know but it keeps her involved. Ie goniapora = whacky waving inflatable tube man, hammer coral = jelly beans

My wife doesn't want to see the tank, she doesn't like the blue light and noise. The tank is in my office now. She won't feed it or take care of it in any way. Money isn't an issue though, we both make money and spend it responsibly on our respective hobbies.

She does all the testing and chemistry, I do all the water changes/cleaning. We both enjoy the hobby. I do like to sneak corals into the tank time to time tho.

My SO really enjoys the tank and is very supportive, going so far as to buying new stock that I have to say no to (too soon for bioload increase, no good location for coral, etc.). She's not big on the chemistry or biology (much to my dismay), but she'll watch after them when I'm out of town and help me find information when something goes wrong.

She also wants to start a jelly tank. Which I fully support and think would be awesome.

My wife is the reason I got back into after a hiatus many years back. I was about to throw out 2 huge bags of bio-balls I had been lugging around with me for years. She said, "Hold on, I think I would like to get a tank going". I warned her of the expense and work involved... didn't phase her. Long story short, we've been doing it together for a long time and the bio-balls eventually did get thrown out.

Not at all. My s/o is constantly telling me I'm obsessed with this hobby, neglecting their needs, and spending too much money. I just tell my s/0 tough luck and ignore them.

Mine does not care for the tank unless her family comes over. Then she becomes Jacques Cousteau, and gives them a tour of a relative small tank and talks about the fish and me feeding the "flowers". And the smelly thing I put on the nori.
When I buy something she wants to know the cost and expensive it was. I normally end the conversation like this: And that's why we have different bank accounts, (her choice)!

My husband is quite good about it. My tank is completely mine and the work is also all mine, but he's quite aware of what's what in the tank. He goes with me to all the shows and club meetings/events, and knows the coral names pretty well. Sometimes I'll buy the things he likes, but I do retain veto power. :p
We do have yours, mine, and our bank accounts, and the cash I spend is my own. But he's almost always aware of the cost of things and let's me do me. :)

On the rare instance I'm traveling alone, he'll feed and keep an eye on things. If something went wrong, he'd know what XYZ thing to tell me about, but wouldn't necessarily know what to do with it without some instruction.

My wife hates that I spend time with my fish tanks or anything other than the kids or her. One week is maintenance on my freshwater, the other week is my reef. It pretty much becomes fish/video games/TV time once wife and kids go to bed. Lol.

We actually just had a heated debate about this... NO she does not. I want a fish room in the next house & she doesn't get it... but my daughter does, so it will happen! LOL

My wife knew that I used to keep a 150 gallon aquarium before we got together. We have a son who loves fish (especially the Nemo movies). I mentioned to her that maybe we could get our son a small aquarium. She was like "sure! We can go and look at some at the store." Well, we take a trip to a couple of local stores and she was pretty impressed with things. When we returned home she said to me "wasnt your old tank really big?" Yeah, why? "Why dont we just build a big one since we are remodeling anyway?" Awesome! Then she tells me but let's still get a small one for now to keep our son occupied and to get yourself reacquainted to taking care of things while you build the big one. So now I am building a 280 gallon in a built in floor to ceiling wall unit with everything you can think of. lol and now she is helping and wanting g to learn with the little tank.
