Doser Dropped in Sump

Hi Guys,

I was installing a new doser but didn't screw it in properly and it dropped into my sump two nights ago (stupid I know) . I discovered it yesterday morning when I noticed that nearly all my inverts were dead and all my corals were dying.

I immediately unplugged it, took it out, tossed carbon and cuprisorb, and did a 25% water change.

This morning I check on the cuprisorb and it had a good amount of blue in it. The problem is the fish appear to be more lethargic than yesterday.

My question is - have I done what I can? Do I wait it out and let the media do the work? Another 25% water change?

I am going on vacation this Friday for a week so I am anxious about the whole ordeal.

I'm running a Frag 85.3:
Salinity: 1.026
Nitrates: 8.3
Phosphate: 0.11
dKH: 8.3

I would change all the water I can. A 25% wc leaves 75% of the problem there.

what was being dosed? I feel like that could contribute to the problem,

Also the chance that there was stray current flowing through the tank

Maybe try polyfilter. Could be the flux from doser CCAs. Definitely keep trying to remove copper and contaminates.

I was just dosing kalk, and brightwell's two part. As for the current there probably was as the plugin for the doser was completely corroded.

Water change will dilute it but who knows what else is in there

BIG water change and polyfilter (the expensive one for heavy metals).

I try not to put anything over my sump, even if it won’t fall in, the humidly and exposure is crappy for the electronics.

It's about to be a very expensive lesson. For now I'll go out and grab some poly filter while my salt mixes. Unfortunately I can only reasonably do 25% changes per day so I'm hoping to just do as many as I can before I leave and pray.

BTW. your doser may not be a complete loss. Dunk it in fresh water, open it and clean what you can with a Q tip and rubbing alcohol. If you cant get to it right away, just let it soak until you can. Let it dry completely and it might still work.
