I have a question about magnesium dozing. When I test my magnesium using the upper magnesium kit, my values are anywhere between 1150 to 1300. Currently, I’m doing the BRS two stage along with magnesium as as well as part C with trace element. My calcium levels are all very stable when I check weekly. However, , my magnesium seems to fluctuate quite a bit. Unsure of how to correctly dose magnesium. Currently set to dose approximately 8 cc of magnesium for a 50 gallon tank, which should only really increase it by 2 ppm if my math is correct? However, the part c is the unknown variable, and I’m not sure how much that increases the magnesium by.

Honestly, Randy advises not testing magnesium at all, because home hobby-level test kits for Mag are most often flaky at best. You can follow Randy's thread here on dosing Mag based your comsumption of calcium, and not by directly testing Mag:

Good luck!

Thank you very much for the link. However, how much of parts C factors into the overall magnesium dose? Ie how much mag is in part c

I would ask that question on Randy’s RMM thread.

Part C does not offset ANY magnesium consumption. It merely offsets the drop in magnesium from salinity corrections necessary with a two part.

When using RMM and determining how much mag to dose based on calcium dosed, one should ignore magnesium contributions from Part C.

If you're doing water changes, often that's enough to replace Mag for most corals.

The Hanna may be one of the best tools available to hobby reefers, but it still has a margin of error, and I think it can be easier to handle Mag as Randy describes in his article linked above.
