Total newb to dosing pumps and dosing in general but I purchased a Bubble Magnus TS1 dosing pump for the purpose of dosing All for Reef throughout the day as opposed to one dose daily as ive added more sps lately and want to keep up with their demands. The pump is a no frills manual pump where you set the amount you want dosed daily and it will spread it out throughout the day based on the amount set.

Here is a picture of the setup with a 3000ml reservoir:

The problem is for the life of me, i cannot get the pump primed. I am using RO tubing that i had leftover from my RO setup so it is not the soft airline tubing. Per the instructions (which aren't the greatest) all i should have to do is hold the manual button to run the pump manually to prime it.

I opened the valve on the reservoir and I've made sure that the correct hose is connected to the inlet. I've left the outlet disconnected so i can see the fluid coming out. I've held the manual button down for as long as 5 minutes and no fluid has come out. I stopped as the shaft of the pump was extremely hot.

Ive tried holding the pump lower towards the solution level and doesn't seem to make a difference

Is the pump mounted too high?
Is the rigid tubing not allowing enough suction, should i pickup some soft airline tubing?

Kinda scratching my head as i wouldn't think this should be all that hard with such a simple device.

I am not familiar with this doser but make sure you have the right hose on the intake side of the pump and then put your hose on the other side and you should be in business to calibrate it. The positioning of the doser has nothing to do with anything

I would suggest that you check the JG fittings to make sure you are getting a sufficient seal in terms of the tubing and seating. All it takes is for the union to be off just a fraction and no suction as a result.

Unless the pump is labeled wrong i definitely have it connected to the intake side of the pump. I'll have to take the head off and put a piece of tape on the shaft and see what direction it spins in the confirm.

Per the instructions the left side is the intake:

That's my suspicion. I may pickup some airline tubing today to try. Being softer that may form a tighter fit around the fittings

Yeah, I don’t know what kind of connection you have with your tubing to the pump but like say on my Red Sea reef doser they have little plastic collars that unscrew to loosen them up, and then you slide the tubing up in there, and then tighten the collar up, which basically crimps the outside of the hose to the hard tubing of the pump. If there was nothing there or in similar fashion you could maybe get some smaller zip ties if you’re tubing you suspect is not sealing tight and just zip tie it tight to the hard line of the pump

unless I'm seeing it wrong that connection is designed for flexible tubing so I doubt you'll be able to get rigid RO tubing to seal assuming the blue hose is connected to the same type of fitting/ connection.

You are 100% correct and everything I said was a total waste of time because yes, you cannot hook a hard plastic line up to that. When I read the post I thought he was using RO WATER to test to see if the pump worked not RO tubing lol. I looked at the tubing and thought it was red arrows, and completely whiffed on the blue line, yeah you’re 100% that is not gonna work 😅

You were close. I have a RS doser and that was my first thought. I just happened to see that fitting sticking down and I've used doser before that had that type so I got a lucky guess.
