Dosing trace elements based on what?

Exactly what I follow, the KISS method doesn't get enough coverage, I've found it to be the best method out there to run a successful fowlr or reef tank;)

Why do you does iodine and iron? Do you find these are used up quickly? And by what in your tank if you know?

I dose iron for my macro algae because it gets depleted and it is good for algae. The iodine I dose is because I have inverts that shed their exoskeleton and it aids in this process. Moreover, iodine help corals from bleaching and aids as a disinfectant. Iodine is also used by Gorgonians, sponges, macroalgae and soft corals.
Because of these examples depleting iron and iodine and removal by protein skimmer, I dose small amounts, even if for piece of mind.

I may invest in a few new test kits and see how they compare to my ICP results when I get them. Thanks for the info

I with the ones that think Red Sea kits are hard to read. The mag test has given me some very different numbers a few times.

Oh also KISS is for sure a good method to follow. To many thing going on and being dosed is not always a good thing. Lastly never dose a trace element that you cant or dont test for. Ime regular water changes with a quality salt mix will replenish all minor trace elements so there is no need for dosing.

Bottom line, if you're adding any additives what so ever to your display, you need to test for it or you're rolling the dice or playing Russian Roulette
I am an old schooler, anything that gets dosed or anything added to my display gets tested and If I can test for it I send it of my sample for an ICP test.

Anything that you dose to your tank should be tested and if you follow that rule, you can't go wrong.
Let me ask you a question, what kind of gear do you use to test your Alk, Calcium, and Mag?

To be honest mainly just on observation of the corals, thats why I started with 5ml of each at 1st, then upped it to 10ml of each, remember I only dose it once every 2 weeks for know but will be upping it a little in the near future. I like to do things a little different, experiment with things a little different than the norm and observe the reactions of the corals. My tank is heavily stocked with corals and fish so I’m sure the 10ml every 2 weeks is less than I could be adding but seems to be enough. Here’s a couple recent pics just in case you haven’t seen the cluster of corals I’m dealing with.

Thanks, the Kessils seem to have grown every different type of coral frag I’ve thrown in there in the last 3 years.

Your tank is one of the best i have ever seen.
I have a 150 that i basicaly lost most corals. I tried an algae turf scrubber as my only nutrient export and that never really worked. My nitrates were off the chart. So i scrapped that after a couple years and started chaeto in a large fuge section in my 40 G sump two weeks ago. I put a $70 grow light for plants and the chaeto is growing like "weeds". I also got a skimmer back in the system yesterday. Once i get nutrient export dialed in i plan to only do minimum water changes from time to time. I want to add trace elements via suppliment insted of WC method.
I have cal mag and alkalinity for major elements. Iron for chaeto. Im using Seachem fuel in my 10 gallon and everthing seems happy. I will likely begin to use it in the 150 as well. Have you tried Fuel in your tank?

Haven’t tried fuel, things are in a nice groove right now so just sticking with what I’ve been doing.

I use Red Sea A,B,C,D.. they direct you to dose based off of your calcium consumption. I dose half of whats recommended because its a game that can kill coral if you OD on it. I also recently sent in my first ICP test so i will know where i am with it all.

So where was your tank at based off this?
