I’m looking to drill a tank and will have 1x 1” drain and 1x 3/4” return line.
where should they we in relation to one another.
should the drain be above below in the middle or somewhere in between.

Personally would put the drain on one side of tank and return on the other side. Would also drill two drain holes, diameter depending on what works with a ghost overflow that’s chosen

the return should be just at water level (if using locline) and the overflow a little below waterlevel, but i wouldnt run 1 drain either. I did it before and it causes water level to fluctuate and high amount of noise compared to bean animal or herbie overflow with 3 or 2 drains respectively.
What size tank are you drilling?

Similar to why I was looking to do.
ideally yes would have multiple drains and returns

it’s a low flow for a clownfish tank
