Duel sump question - drain.

Hi - I’m going to be using to Bashsea 60s sumps. On a 500g display. I have a fish room.

One was not large enough and I had an older one I can use.

My plan is to use a gravity feed to 2 sump. Question is where do I drill sump 1. My assumption is hole 1 in the diagram below. My thoughts are this placement allows for water to flow to sump 2 below and ensure I have capacity in sump 1 and 2 for power outage on display.

I’d give my self room on sump 1 so hole 1 would only be a few inches down as if I was running it as a solo. Giving me room in this sump and sump 2.

Thoughts?

Just make sure your Lowest Sump can handle All the over-flow from Tank and first sump when the pumps stop.

I would go with 2. But you won't get much reserve capacity out of the first sump because that will drain to 2nd.

Had a brain fart - guess no matter what sump 2 will have to take on all the water from display.
