Duncan bailed on me

Aqua SD acid spill that I’ve been babying along after one of the three heads receded and died. Now the biggest one which had been growing like a weed bailed out of the skeleton this morning. Tried gluing it to a frag plug but that’s like gluing slime to an oyster. Needless to say I lost it. Had a hammer do the same recently but is still living in a net. What would cause this?
