Mine just did this for the first time too. It reopened after about a week. Was in the tank for 8 months happy and growing, no changes in chemistry or additives. The most I could narrow it down to was just an addition of other corals, so it must not have liked a resident and now it accepts it. Duncan's don't have nemocysts for stinging and I haven't heard of them resulting to chemical warfare through allopathy, I assume they must adjust to it from others.
Mine did this when it was budding which it looks like yours us doing. Could be taking extra nutrients and might be closed due to the new head growing. Mine did this when it was sprouting 3. I did a force feed so to speak with some benepets coral food and sprayed at the top of the head next day it opened dont know if it had anything to do with the feeding i did or not. Maybe try to give it a couple more days and if its not open try and move away from light source a little. Otherwise i know duncans can be finnicky at times as lobg as the tissue is not receding at the base i would say not to worry if you start seeing the skin on the skeletal base start to recede then i would worry.
Looks like you are correct. Looked at it closely today and see a new bud forming. I fed it some mysis today along with some reefroids. Just going to wait it out.Mine did this when it was budding which it looks like yours us doing. Could be taking extra nutrients and might be closed due to the new head growing.
