Yesterday I got a baaaaaby Pavo Damsel from Biota and when I saw he was basically still a fry, I thought I'd keep him on the refugium to grow out. Sadly he didn't make it through the night in the acclimation box. But as I was researching keeping a fish in the refugium, it seems quite a few places say you can keep a Dwarf Lion there. How do people feel about this? I know they're not big swimmers, but is that really enough space? And won't they be bored out of their gourd being all alone in there??

But because I WANT a Dwarf Lion, the idea struck me as intriguing. What do people think?

Why put a display fish, hidden away in a refugium?

Oh you're totally right! But I've got shrimp other such creatures in the display tank. I'd keep the stand door open all the time! LOL. This is 99% all just wondering out loud. I'm not convinced a refugium is enough to keep a Dwarf Lion happy. It's just a fish I'd love to have! I had one in my old 72 gallon tank and he was awesome.

This makes me wonder, do aggressive fish tanks have no CUC?

If you want a lionfish , don't think "Dwarf" as in being small and the water volume will be fine!
This is a predator and requires feeding and you will need very good filtration.

Unfair to keep in a refugium!

Just because you "Want or find a lionfish a fascinating creature". If you can't provide a natural habitat don't bother

A pic of the refuguim could help, I’ve seen some fuges that look like mini tanks, a freind of mine you used to have one that was pretty much a mini tank with macro algae and sea horses

At no point here did I disagree with your assessment.

I like the idea of using a fuge as a predator tank but the smallest species of "dwarf lionfish" still get 6-7 inches long so IMO your refugium is too small. If I were you I'd put a hitchhiker peacock mantis shrimp in there that someone would kill otherwise.

That's good, because i don't recall that we had a discussion . I simply quoted/replied because i have experience keeping predatory fish including lionfish, if i hadn't then i would have overlooked your post and never commented.

I was clearly passing on experience. Best wishes young man
