You can use any 100% silicone, you just need to let it completely cure before putting it into service. I cot mine from Lowe's.

Any silicone with a FDA approval is good.... For building tanks you want something like Dow 688 it has a little more bite...;)

Also do you think a egg crate stand will hold up a 1050 atb skimmer? and how high do I need to put it for it to work right?

Go get a piece of acrylic and stick of pvc and make a table base for it, cut pvc to 1" or so superglue or silicone to acrylic then set skimmer on it.

Eggcrate flexes and wont sit level

Can get it all at lowes or home depot

That sounds a lot nicer, how high do the 1050 atb need to sit to work good?

Not sure on that skimmer, the swc's sit in 7-10" water so find whee you can set your water level and then make your base to set at that level. basically if you can have 12" of water in skimmer area and want it to set in 10 make base 2" tall for example

I've always been told not to use just any silicone because of the mildew resistant additives in them. The silicone caulks that are available from home depot and lowes have mold and mildew resistance in them if they are for "kitchens and baths" or "doors and windows." They do carry some without mold/mildew resistance in them, but you need to check the labels.

I agree, that is why you need to make sure it is 100%, these have no additives.

Thanks for the clarification, Ricky. Much appreciated.

Paul, I found some GE silicone I that has the mold and mildew resistant additive in it. @ Home Depot Almost found out the hard way once awhile back, and that's why I don't trust the I vs. II label.
