Dying Toadstool Leather!!

I got my toadstool about two weeks ago, and to propagate it (I think) the previous owner stuck a 3 inch long metal stick up the stalk to keep it in place. It’s been closed up and drooping for a while which was concerning, and this morning I noticed that the flesh on the bottom of the stalk is turning brown, and the end of the metal is sticking out about halfway up. I don’t know if I should cut the brown part away and have it attach to the rock, or just leave it be and hope it gets better. Please help.

It’s normal to stick a needle or toothpick through its stalk to help it root in place. That should not be the problem. It needs good flow to help it shed its outer mucus layer and help it keep up straight. But the stalk being brown is not necessarily bad. That’s a general answer but if you can post pictures and post your water parameters then folks can offer a more detailed answer.

Gotcha thanks, I wasn’t aware that the toothpick is normal. I moved it to an area with higher flow and it seems to be perking up, we’ll see in the next couple days.
