Figured I would share the way I have simplified my water changes for my 20 gallon frag tank.
I used the design from DIY King for an overflow but placed a valve on the outlet pipe. This is then plumped right into a drain. When I want to do a water change I just open it and the water will drain until it reaches the top of my pipe. I cut the pipe in the tank to remove about 2.5 gallons of water. Works really well!!
