Why do people bid on items 10 days before auctions? All they are doing is raising the price against themselves. And encourages Shill bidding.

I have never understood that myself. I think it is mostly inexperienced bidders. It’s happened since eBay started though. I think a lot of people just hope no one else bids and can get it cheap. Or if you aren’t going to be around at auction close you can just bid your max price that you’re willing to pay and if it goes above that you likely would have lost anyway. I definitely agree though. I’m a last second bidder and you definitely get better deals but you also risk missing out on the item that way. The sniping programs out now it make it really easy to win auctions at the lowest possible price. makes it almost impossible to lose unless the bidding goes over your limit.

I'm a sniper, but sometimes I'll put in the first bid to try and get it for cheap. Those are the ones I don't care if I win or lose.

I’ve also wondered this for as long as I’ve used eBay. It’s funny to me bc the bidder will do whatever needed to make sure they have the leading bid which drives up the price. Just be patient and snipe in at the last few seconds.

Yeah, then those same bidders go on the eBay forums and whine about snipers...lol
