Sometimes mine will vibrate out of position and do thst. Takes a few twists and adjustments to get the magnets lined up correctly and I've had to turn it off and back on a few times.

Might also try taking the wet side out and make sure nothing is impeding the impeller.

First thing is to make sure you are using the correct spacer. Is the sound coming from the wetside or from the dryside?

Assuming you have it set up right.....it's still under warranty.....contact Ecotech Marine!

Mine did this recently. I took apart the wet side to find out the plastic holding the magnet gave way and the magnet expanded. Not sure why, and mine are out of warranty. Had to get a new wet side.

I have heard that Ecotech had an issue with the plastic magnet casing failing prematurely....and hopefully you catch this before the warranty expires.

However, I'd also strongly recommend not cleaning the magnet portion in vinegar. Vinegar will migrate into the plastic and cause the casing to fail. I found out the hard way. I now only vinegar soak the cage portion to clean off coraline.....the magnet portion just gets rinsed and scrubbed in tap water.

I didn't know this, may have been my issue. Happened to two of mine. Thank you for posting that. Wont be using vinegar to clean that part anymore.
