i had 1 for 15 months.. he never touched any corals until the 15th month when he decided that my pricey zoas were yummy.. i took him out and sold him back to my LFS for half the price i bought it

I love mine , it has worked out great, I've had em for 9 months now and it eats anything I put into the tank and it is all most protective of my mandarin.

Well let's pray mine won't do that! That's what I'm afraid of bc they're such a pain to catch!

It's almost a given that almost all angels will eat coral at some point owning them. The only ones that will not are of the Genicanthus variety.

Maybe you're right but I've had friends have angels that were good for them for a long time. It all comes down to being hit or miss basically.

My Flameback was ok for a few months until it discovered how tasty duncans are. Interestingly I gave him to a friend and he put him in his tank with a large colony of duncans and lots of meaty LPS and he hasn't bothered a thing. Wierd!

See I guess everyone has their own experiences with them. That is weird tho.

Well I just purchased him! Got him acclimating now :)

I would quarantine it and once it's healthy test it with corals in qt.

I feel like if he's in QT with just a coral frag, he's going to be inclined to go after it since it'll be him and just a frag in there.

Well, news isn't good. Woke up this morning, turned on the light just to see the angel being whipped around by my powerhead. I turned off the PH and the angel just sunk to the bottom. He's still alive but barely. No visible signs of anything. He was eating perfectly fine for the past 2 days. I thought I did a good job at acclimating him but apparently not

So sorry to hear :( Just to help rule anything out, how did you acclimate? What is your tank's salinity compared to your LFS? Did you have any meds in the QT? Was the QT cycled, and if not, how did you monitor for ammonia?

Again, just trying to rule anything on your end. More often than not it is the fish itself and nothing we did.

Nah I didn't do a great job acclimating him. The QT should have been cycled. All 20gallons were used right out of my 150 DT from a water change. Plus the HOB filter I have on there has a filter in there that's been sitting in my sump getting established. I've done this before with fish and it worked out fine.

I think I went wrong with acclimation big time. So faults all on myself unfortunately. The fish is big and healthy too so I'm really ticked off at myself

Not to be a contrarian, but your qt setup method seens spot on. The media from the sump should have plenty of benificial bacteria, and water from the dt is good too. So unless you went an hr+ acclimating before adding to qt, you shouldnt be responsible for the loss.

How much difference Sobo? If 0.002 or less I doubt that was it.

I usually use DT water but dilute it with RO/DI to match the salinity to the shipping water. (one of the reasons I love Diver's Den as they ship at 1.025-1.026 usually)
