I found one of my emerald crabs dead randomly and trying to figure out why. I have 2 clownfish, 1 peppermint shrimp, trochus snails, nassarius snails, couple zoanthids and until recently 2 equal sized emerald crabs. There is lots of food for the crabs as well. There is no obvious signs of damage to its body. Both crabs are presumably quite young, their shells are half inch wide, excluding their legs.

Temp 75f salinity 1.024 and ph 8.1. Dont have test kits for other parameters.

Nothing lives forever. I have had them die in the past just like some corals do. No reason.
Just remove them. I just pulled one out of my frag system yesterday.

emeralds nasty little buggers just my opinion,

Could it be just a molt?
No definitely the whole crab. I did see my peppermint shrimp attack a snail once until I started feeding him occasionally, but I would think the crab could hold his own against him.

The crabs are mainly eating hair algae, is that enough for them?
