This makes me nervous... Little bigger seems to really like this spot on the underside of my torch. Haven't seen him nip at the torch at all (and trust me... I've been watching!)

I've had a few in the past, but never seen one do this. Anyone else ever observe similar behavior?

Of course.... I had to say something.... Came back a bit later and found the torch retracted. Crab was working on this.

I've had that happen several times with emeralds hosting euphyllia like that. As a matter fo fact in my current setup an emerald crab is spending time every day in the exact same position as your photo in the OP, but on a branching hammer coral. Very low risk I would say. Sure, the crab may occasionally bump the coral, but nothing serious.

I'm not sure what you're trying to show in the second photo. I don't see the crab, but i see what looks like a few feather dusters in his spot.

Haha, I have two emeralds that sleep in a hammer and torch every night! They run to their sleeping positions at 8pm every night. No damage to hammer or torch and the emeralds are totally fine. They just sit there and don’t nip at the corals.

Fresh white spot above the feather dusters. He was digging a hole in the coral skeleton. Yes, that is dead skeleton, but it still irritated the coral
