Over the last hour my emperor angle has gone from normal to not able to swim. He’s laying on his side, breathing fast and shallow. He’s 5 or 6 years old. Currently doing freshwater dip.

Has discoloration spots all over. He got those when he was stressed before but they always went away. Very pronounced now

help!

Just finished dip. Nothing came off of him and he doesn’t seem to be any better. All other fish and corals are fine. Nothing new added in months. Water is fine

When you say water is fine, what readings do you have and what test kit are you using?
Has anything changed such as temperature, salinity, Ph, fish startled and crashed into glass or object ?
Add an air stone for added oxygen but this fish appears to be moribund and may or may not make it given the symptoms at hand.

Sorry. Was posting while dipping. No real improvement and nothing I can see that came off of him after 5 min

ph 7.9 apex
Salinity 1.026 Milwaukee
Nitrate 12 last time I checked a couple days ago Hanna
All other fish acting normal (though a couple are now picking on him)

An hour is a really fast time line for a fish to go from good to bad. Anything in the tank that could have maybe stung him?
Fw dip can be really stressful specially when a fish is not doing too well.
do you have another tank or qt you can place him in? At this point I would personally do a 90 min acriflavine bath followed by a 24 hour methylene blue bath.

He did not. Woke up this morning and he was in the rock work. Got to him before the cleanup crew did much. I feel so bad. No clue what it was, what caused it, what I could have done to save him or what I need to do to protect the rest of my fish. He was only 6 yo so I find it hard to believe “it was his time” naturally.

Sorry to hear.
No, it probably wasn’t old age, they can live into their 20’s
Just watch all of the other fish closely, especially their breathing rates.

No idea. He developed more pronounced discoloration all across his body. None of the other fish seem to be bothered. Will be keeping a close eye.
