Emptying skimmer

Every time my collection cup needs to be dumped I clean it and the neck.
In my experience a clean neck will keep the skimmer performing it's best.

My Lifereef collection cup empties into a one gallon Arizona Tea container which I have installed a float switch on. If the skimmer ever goes crazy and fills the Arizona container about 2/3rd's full, it will shut off the pump to my skimmer. It ain't pretty, but it works. I try and remove the collection cup every week or two to clean the crud off the neck.
